This week activity was to take photos and post them on Instagram on Thursday because it was Instagram day. The class used the #art110s16 in order for us all to be able to see everyone’s pictures that they posted among the entire day, meaning any photo from 12 to 12. These pictures down below were some that caught my eye when I wen to the hashtag. The first image is going to be piratically me all this entire spring break. Except for the cat, I love cats; However, cat fur causes me allergies, so there fore I would be forever alone. lol. The second image kind of gives me a reminder. It seem like they are all wearing attired shoes for running or some sort of exercise, which reminds me to push my self to go work out everyday. The third image was also a reminder of to eat well on the weekends. I tend to binge eat on the weekends, this photo did not work at all. Chuck E Cheese got me so good this weekend. The fourth image reminded me of Easter! How we should spent time with out family and enjoy every moment we have them. Just live in the moment and stop being on your phone all the time. The last image was inspiring me to not only go to the place that they are at, but also just to get out more. Be more of the last image rather than being the first image. This weeks hashtag activity demonstrates to me at least that we are all very different, but somehow we are always going to find someone to connect to. Meaning that we are never alone, there is always someone who is doing the same thing that you are doing.
Artist: Helen Werner Cox
Exhibition: Silent Screams
Media: Oil Paint, Pastel, Water based materials: crayons and color pencils
Gallery: CSULB School Of Art, Gatov Gallery West
Instagram: no Instagram
This week, I was able to see some of Helen Werner Cox work. Helen was born outside of New York, in the country. She later moved to California. She is a graduate student here at CSULB and is studying in the drawing and painting program. Some of the things that she enjoys doing when she is not working on her art is to read and do puzzles. Based on her Art that she demonstrated among all of us this Thursday, She states that her art focuses on the idea that society is being trapped in the same circle. She believes that we are in a carousel, never changing and always committing the same mistakes.
When viewing Helen’s artwork, there seems to be a constant appreciation towards painting and drawings. She uses a lot of color among it as well, and perhaps uses all the colors of the rainbow. The color gives her art so much energy like if it was alive. Her art has very geometric lines, it makes it easier for the viewer to feel like the painting or the animal inside is moving. The main ideas that were used in her art were horses, and carousels. These ideas demonstrates a little bit of reality and distortion.
When viewing Helen’s exhibit, it really
take you to make a whole different perspective among society and this cycle that she portrays. It realizes that we are in a chains that is hard to break and become free. The horse in her images represent a strong creature, making it symbolize humanity in a way. That we have the opportunity to break free from this carousel, however, we decide not to do it. Which demonstrates her frustration among society. I enjoyed her exhibit this week and her words among society. She is very eye opening, I am sure to many of us that met her this week.
This week I met Adeline Leon. She is a first year here at CSULB and commute all the way from her home town, Huntington beach. Things that she enjoys doing is going kayaking, sailing, canoeing, and swimming. She loves to dance especially cumbias and Mexican music. She loves going to the beach to see the sunset. Adeline love food, she works a part time job, since she was 13. Funny fact about her is that she does not like scary movies but she still ends up watching them. Cooking is also another hobby, but she hates the cleaning afterwards. One of her favorite artist is J Cole. She loves math and hates English. She has only been to Mexico, no other country, and around California. One of her biggest problems would be procrastinating, I can really relate to her and maybe most of us can, so it isn’t really a problem anymore.
Artist- Sean Joy Rosario Cabanig
Exhibition- All Work All Play
Media- Copper, Sterling Silver, Enamel, Brass, Spray Paint
About the Artist
Sean Joy Rosario Cabanig is a undergraduate student here at CSULB. She is working on her BFA in metals and plans to graduate before the end of this school year. She started out the school year with studying poetry, however, she did not enjoy it as much as art, so she decided to change her major into art. She lives and rents an apartment here in Long Beach. Her family live in Los Angeles. In her free time, she enjoys cooking and spent time with her boyfriend and do some more art! She is very expressive about being out there and just exploring more with things.
Her exhibition was called” All Work All Play”. Most of the stuff on her display were jewelry like rings, necklaces, an bracelets. A particular sculpture that I saw was very out there should I say. But I like that with this piece she demonstrated that she likes to explore even when it can make some people uncomfortable, but for me, I was totally fine with it. One of her necklaces had three balls hanging from it that were covered it silver, most of the necklace covered the entire neck area.
She said many about her art pieces. She was inspired by the people surrounding her, the humor, and the environment. She did say as well that she can spend so much time into her pieces because she loves it so much. She does constantly repeat her advice to us which is to explore more or as much as we can. She is looking into going for her master in metals but she still hasn’t mad up her decision. She learns her techniques from the classes that she takes. She is just having fun with it.
Synthesis/ My Experience
My experience this week with the Artist was very enjoyable because I was able to see pieces that I have never seen before. It was great getting to know the artist even more rather than just looking at their sculpture and figuring out what inspired them and what materials they used.
This past week I met Leah Prez, a 3rd year student here at CSULB. She is majoring in Child development and minoring in Human Development. The reason she came about majoring in child development would be that she enjoys working with kids so she would like to be a teacher; However, she would also like to work in a children hospital, so maybe she would have to go into nursing as well. Some of her favorite hobbies about her would be playing basketball, going to the beach, and going to the movies on Tuesdays because it is 6 dollar Tuesdays she says. She is a fraternal twin, has 8 other siblings and is left handed. She wants to travel to Samoa and El Salvador in the future because her family is from there and wants to see the culture. Leah has only been to Mexico, San Francisco, and San Diego, so she would really like to explore a lot more. The last fact that she told me was that she lost 80 lbs starting from the beginning of freshman year in college. Her journey is not over, but her working at the Golden Coral Buffet has made it difficult to get back in the gym. She would eventually in the near future like to live by the beach and have a maintained job.
Hi I am Valentina! a cinnamon toast crunch, that is as crunchy as it can be. Yet pour me in some milk and I can turn into a soft little square. I have lots of friends that are just like me and like to dive into a bowl of milk on a hot summer day. When me and my friends dive into the pool of milk, we tend to leave behind a sugary and cinnamon taste behind so that when someone decide to take a taste of the milk it will taste just like us except I hope that we don’t get eaten every morning or night when a human comes around to serve themselves a huge bowl of cinnamon toast crunch. They tend to forget that we have lives and that we aren’t just food for them to eat. Here are some of my friends that I would like for you to eat instead of me so go check out their page down below!
Its her birthday go say Happy Birthday !
Get your Drink on with my friend the Bartender
Check this person out too !! hilarious!
This weeks project was really fun to do. At first I did not have a group in order to make the video, but at the end I was accepted by these group of awesome people. I am a very shy person, but the making of this video made me meet new people. Honestly, this topic can be very controversial, but we wanted to know what people thought about the presidential election and the runners. All of the people who we interviewed are not voting for Donald Duck, I mean Donald Trump as we know why. Which for me it is a relief because I do not want him to win, however i do know that there is people rooting for him. This assignment was just fun to make with a good group of people.
